Conference Summary

Launched more than 20 years ago, this FASEB Science Research Conference (SRC) offers a broad overview of recent advances in the field of autoimmunity in a highly interactive environment.

It is important to understand immune tolerance and its breakdown to treat autoimmune diseases such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, uveitis, type 1 diabetes, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and many others. This conference brings together basic scientists with clinicians and industry experts to present and discuss new insights into the triggers, pathogenesis, and therapy of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.

The main themes of the meeting are to: 1) Explore novel mechanisms of immune tolerance and tissue-specific immunity; 2) Investigate new advances in the genetic, metabolic, and environmental factors contributing to autoimmune diseases; 3) Examine emerging translational research in autoimmunity including autoimmune complications that develop during cancer immunotherapy and novel approaches to treat autoimmune disorders.

Conference sessions will present the latest research findings and foster engaging discussion on:

  • Regulation of immunity by metabolic and environmental factors
  • Pathogenic T cells in autoimmunity
  • Immunoregulation
  • T-B collaboration
  • Innate immunity-inflammation and apoptosis
  • Tissue-specific immunity and autoimmunity
  • Autoimmunity and cancer immunotherapy
  • Advances in diagnostics and targeted therapy

In addition to opening keynote lectures from Pippa Marrack, PhD, and John Kappler, PhD (National Jewish Health), and a closing keynote lecture from Jeff Bluestone, PhD (University of California, San Francisco). this conference will feature eight major sessions with four invited speakers and two talks selected from submitted abstracts, three poster sessions, and a career development session “Career Paths in Biomedical and Translational Research.”
