Conference Summary

Launched in 2003, this FASEB Science Research Conference (SRC) is the only scientific meeting of its kind, dedicated to exploring ion channel regulation from molecular biophysics to physiology and clinical applications.

This conference brings together an interdisciplinary group of scientists from academic and industry backgrounds who study and conduct research on ion channel regulation, from molecular biophysics to cellular and integrative physiology levels.

The main themes of this meeting are: 1) Explore molecular biophysics of ion channel structure, function, and regulation by intracellular signaling molecules; 2) Examine emerging research and technologies that advance the capacity to manipulate ion channels to regulate physiology; 3) A focus on the roles of ion channels in diseases such as cystic fibrosis and chronic pain, and as targets for innovative therapies.

Conference sessions will present the latest research findings and engaging discussion on:

  • Ion channelopathies
  • Ion channel modulation
  • Ion channel structure-function
  • Ion channel engineering
  • Ion channel neurophysiology
  • Cardiovascular ion channels
  • Rhythms and dysrhythmias
  • Ion channels and pain

In addition to opening and closing keynote addresses by Frances Ashcroft, PhD, ScD (University of Oxford) and Bruce Bean, PhD (Harvard University), this conference will feature 36 speakers giving full-length talks over nine sessions, two poster sessions, and two career development sessions, "From Trainee to Faculty: Making the Jump" and "Writing a K Grant With an Eye Towards the First RO1."
