Conference Summary

Launched in 2001, this FASEB Science Research Conference (SRC) is the only scientific meeting of its kind dedicated to lysophospholipids, their receptors, and the method for modulating these pathways for investigational purposes and therapeutic benefit.

This conference brings together an interdisciplinary group of scientists from academic and industry backgrounds who study and conduct research on lysophospholipid biology and therapeutics.

The main themes of this conference are: 1) Identify specific roles for S1P and LPA, and other lysolipids in multiple disease states; 2) Define common links in lysophospholipid biology that will lead to collaboration and enable translation of current research into improvements in human health; 3) Explore disease biomarkers specifically linked with LPA/S1P receptor-mediated response that will lead to development of novel lysophospholipid-targeted therapeutics.

Conference sessions will present the latest research findings and foster engaging discussion on:

  • Sphingosine kinases, S1P phosphatases and S1P lyase, S1PRs and S1P signaling
  • Novel aspects of Autotaxin and LPA signaling
  • Sphingolipids in cancer biology and cardiovascular disease
  • Lysophospholipids in the N’s (neuro & nephrobiology)
  • Translational Targets
  • Lessons learned from FTY720 and analogs
  • Novel bioactive lipids: lysophosphatidylserine, lysocardiolipin, ceramide and ceramide-1-phosphate
  • Lipidomics and emerging technologies

In addition to the opening keynote lectures from Jason Cyster, PhD (University of California, San Francisco) and David Brindley, PhD, DSc (University of Alberta, Canada), this conference will feature nine oral sessions, four poster sessions, and career path and development sessions, including a Women in Science session.
